Johor State Assembly dissolved

JOHOR: Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi has officially dissolved the state assembly as of today, paving the way for a new state election.

According to The Vibes, this decision sets off the next political contest in one of Malaysia’s most strategically important states, with parties now preparing for what may become a closely observed electoral battle.

Onn confirmed the dissolution was carried out with the approval of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, putting an end to weeks of speculation about an early poll.

The announcement was delivered at the menteri besar’s official residence in Saujana, even though the current assembly term was not due to conclude until April next year.

In recent weeks, political activity has ramped up, with various leaders publicly staking claims and identifying potential key constituencies.

Following the 2022 state election, Barisan Nasional holds 40 out of 56 seats, maintaining a strong majority. Pakatan Harapan secured 12 seats, while Perikatan Nasional and Muda won three and one seat respectively
