KOTA KINABALU: The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) is ready to confront the forthcoming General Election (PRU) in accordance with its constitutional amendments, which will establish 26 parliamentary constituencies in Sabah and Labuan as new divisions of the party.
In explaining this, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also the president of Gagasan Rakyat, stated that the party’s preparations were discussed during the Gagasan Rakyat Supreme Council meeting.
“We are ready to face the upcoming elections, strategising the party and organising our machinery according to the parliamentary constituencies.
“Coincidentally, we will be facing the general election, which aligns perfectly with the amendments we have made,” he said.
He made these remarks at a press conference following the Special General Conference of Gagasan Rakyat at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Sunday.
The special conference, attended by representatives from across Sabah and Labuan, aimed to amend the party’s constitution to allow its divisions to be defined according to parliamentary constituencies, as opposed to the previous State Assembly (DUN) divisions.
Hajiji noted that the motion was unanimously supported by all speakers from the Women’s, Youth, and Beliawanis wings, as well as the attending representatives.
Further commenting on the amendment, Hajiji stated that the motion approved at the special conference would be submitted to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) for the department’s approval.
“The constitutional amendment of the party has been completed and received unanimous support. This means our amendment from 74 divisions to 26 has been approved and will be submitted to the ROS for approval. Therefore, we will update our party structure moving forward using the parliamentary constituencies”, he said.
Regarding cooperation for the upcoming PRU16, Hajiji mentioned that Gagasan Rakyat will explore all possibilities for collaboration.
