Sabah makes history – clinches the Challenge Cup 4-3 against Penang in a penalty shootout

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah FC has secured the title of Challenge Cup champions for the 2025/2026 season after triumphing over Penang FC 4-3 in a penalty shootout during the second final match held at Likas Stadium.

Both teams ended the match tied on aggregate 1-1.

The game, which attracted over 20,000 fans, saw Sabah FC control possession, while Penang FC also presented a formidable challenge with their swift counterattacks.

Despite the opportunities created, neither team was able to convert before the match was ultimately decided by penalties.

Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan announced that the State Government will grant a bonus of RM700,000 as a gesture of appreciation to Sabah FC for their remarkable achievement.

He mentioned that this victory showcases the team’s enhanced performance and the continuous efforts in advancing football within the state
