MSOG enters five MoUs with CIDB Technologies to enhance the skills of Sabahan workers in the oil and gas sector

KOTA KINABALU: Marmaz Sipitang Oil and Gas Sdn Bhd (MSOG) has formalised five MoUs with CIDB Technologies aimed at training and upskilling local workers in Sabah for the oil and gas (O&G) industry, addressing the current shortage of skilled labour.

This partnership seeks to tackle the deficit of specialised workers while providing opportunities for Sabah’s youth to obtain better-paying jobs and lessen dependence on foreign labour.

Datuk Seri Marajoh Unding, CEO of Marmaz Group Holding, stated that many locals are not aware of the available opportunities in the sector, despite the strong demand and growth potential in the region.

“We want Sabah youths to take advantage of these opportunities and develop their careers locally,” he remarked, emphasising that this initiative aligns with government efforts to boost local employment.

Mohd Azman Sahari, Director of MSOG Academy, pointed out a significant shortage of welders, especially in pipeline and aluminium work, and mentioned that a new training module is being created to prepare participants from no experience to industry-ready.

He also indicated that the Sabah Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) is projected to grow substantially over the next five years, making early skills training essential.

“Entry-level workers can earn as much as RM4,500, with potential earnings reaching RM12,000 as they gain qualifications and experience, along with opportunities for further education up to degree level,” he added.

Meanwhile, CIDB Technologies CEO Mohd Hafiz Dasahi expressed optimism that this initiative will contribute to the long-term development of human capital in the state.

The planned training centre will be situated at the Sabah Trade Centre following renovations, with additional support from CIDB facilities located in Kayu Madang, Telipok.
