Jeffery Nor appeals that the prices of diesel and petrol in Sabah remain unchanged

KOTA KINABALU: Putatan UMNO chief Jeffery Nor Mohamed has requested that the federal government keep the prices of diesel and petrol in Sabah at the previously set levels.

In making this call, he said that this measure is crucial considering the state of road connectivity and the average income of the people in Sabah, which is still below adequate levels compared to the better monthly earnings in Peninsular Malaysia.

Furthermore, he mentioned that transportation data indicates that the majority of Sabah’s population, particularly in rural areas, still relies on heavy vehicles that use diesel due to the largely poor condition of the roads.

Jeffery made these comments in response to the statement by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, yesterday, regarding the phased targeting of diesel subsidies in Sabah.

“We also hope that the BUDI95 assistance of 200 litres can continue after April in Sabah.

“The need for this subsidy is greatly anticipated in the state of Sabah… due to the distance, road conditions, and the majority of per capita income of families in Sabah.

“We hope that we can all understand this crisis situation, and mutual concessions between us in Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia are essential. May the events in the Middle East not prolong and return to normalcy”, he said.
