KOTA KINABALU: A total of 67 residents from Kampung Sibaung, Pitas were moved to a temporary evacuation center (PPS) following the flooding that occurred early this morning.
According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), they received an emergency call at 1:16 AM, prompting eight members from the Pitas Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to be dispatched to the site, which is about eight kilometers from the station.
The team arrived at 1:25 AM and found several houses submerged, trapping the residents inside.
Operation Commander, PBK I Mohd Nor Azmer Mat Shor Nasir stated that the fire department carried out the evacuation operation to the PPS Resthouse.
“All victims were successfully evacuated safely. After ensuring that no more victims were affected and the situation was under control, the operation was completely concluded at 3:40 AM,” he said in a statement.
The evacuees included 10 adult males, 32 adult females, 15 male children, and 10 female children.
The operation also received assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
So far, no injuries have been reported, and the situation in the affected area is being monitored continuously.
