TAWAU: Residents in Merotai can breathe a sigh of relief as the installation of solar LED street lights from Jambatan Putih to Kampung Sungai Udin is expected to be fully completed by the end of October.
President of the Sabah People’s Hope Party (PHRS), Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah, stated that the installation work began last week and has now reached the intersection near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Abaka, Merotai.
“This project is clear evidence that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government is not just making political promises.
“Thanks to the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, for approving this project last February,” he said during a visit to the project installation today.
Liew, who is also the Vice President of GRS, said that the area was previously often dark and a site for fatal accidents, especially at night.
“With these solar lights, road users’ safety is more assured. However, I remind the public to be cautious as installation work is still ongoing,” he added.
At the same time, Liew expressed his appreciation to the Tawau Municipal Council (MPT), the Public Works Department (JKR), and the contractors for their collaboration in making this project a success.
He said that the GRS government’s efforts demonstrate their concern for the safety and well-being of the people.
