KOTA KINABALU: The political landscape in Sabah remains highly dynamic, characterised by shifting alliances and strategic negotiations, said former state assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang.
In March 2023, he said the “Langkah Kinabalu” highlighted the fluid nature of Sabah’s politics, involving key figures such as Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (UMNO), Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal (Warisan), and Datuk Peter Anthony (PKDM).
“As the upcoming state elections approach, the possibility of a coalition among UMNO, Warisan, and PKDM continues to be plausible,” he said in his latest social media post.
Ligunjang said such an alliance could serve as a strategic move to strengthen their position against the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“Although Warisan and PKDM have publicly signalled plans to contest independently, ongoing behind-the-scenes discussions suggest that strategic collaborations are still possible, “ he said.
However, Ligunjang said no formal coalition has been officially announced yet.
According to him, political observers are closely monitoring public statements, campaign platforms, and rally activities among these parties, which may provide insights into potential alliances as the elections draw nearer.
For the record, both Warisan and PKDM have stated previously that they will contest solo in the upcoming state elections.
