Sabah’s non-citizen population surges from 821,400 in 2019 to 1,083,400 in 2024 – Warisan tells locals to compare

KOTA KINABALU: The youth wing of Warisan has published official statistics that compare deportation records from the Warisan Plus and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administrations, inviting the public to scrutinise the claims made against the party.

The Vibes reported that Warisan Youth Chief Terrence Au stated that the party felt it necessary to respond after GRS leaders accused Warisan of inadequately addressing Sabah’s undocumented immigrant situation.

He remarked that the longstanding issue of migration has been manipulated by GRS operatives.

Au highlighted that during Warisan’s 22-month tenure, 31,578 undocumented migrants were deported, in contrast to 28,738 over nearly five years under GRS-PH.

He also pointed out that Sabah’s non-citizen population increased from 821,400 in 2019 to 1,083,400 in 2024, with a notable rise of 279,200 individuals between 2023 and 2024.

Au emphasised that these statistics were derived from written responses from the State Assembly, the Department of Statistics, and various reputable media sources.
