KOTA KINABALU: Former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak has called on the people of Sabah, especially the Muslim community, to refrain from becoming excessively involved in politics to the point of jeopardising friendly relationships.
He said that while differing political views are a normal aspect of a democratic nation, they should not escalate to the point of disrupting relationships.
“In Sabah, we are accustomed to a variety of political opinions. This is a normal part of democracy.
“However, politics should not be personal or emotional. It is about trust and approaches towards the future of our state.
“We may belong to different parties, but we must not let these differences sever our bonds,” he expressed in his latest Facebook post.
Salleh, who is also the assemblyman for Usukan, emphasised that during the month of Syawal, the people of the state should witness leaders and citizens from diverse backgrounds coming together at open houses, greeting each other, and seeking forgiveness.
“This is our culture in Sabah — to respect one another despite differing views.
“Let us continue to nurture this spirit. Sabah is stronger when we unite, even with different approaches,” he concluded.
