KOTA KINABALU: Usukan assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak has gone down to the ground to give moral support for the search and rescue operation for a female student feared to have drowned while swimming in the Kedamaian River near Kg Pirasan on Sunday afternoon.
Upon arrival at the scene early today, the former Sabah Chief Minister received a brief update from the security personnel on the current status of the operation, which has now entered its second day.
He also took the time to meet with and provide moral support to the family members of the missing student, who were gathered by the riverbank.
The 16-year-old Form 4 student was reported missing around 3:30 PM while swimming in the river, prompting the launch of the search and rescue efforts.
She was visiting her late father’s relatives during the trip to Kota Belud.
The operation also involved members of the Water Rescue Team from Kudat.
The body of the drowning victim was found this afternoon, nearly 2 kilometers from the incident site.
