KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO Election Director Jeffery Nor Mohamed has called on the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Youth chief to do “a little bit of homework” to understand the differences between the Chief Minister’s position and that of a party leader.
In making the call, he said that the Chief Minister’s role can be held by anyone, and the powers associated with this position are executive in nature, governing the state administration.
In contrast, Jeffery, who is also the Putatan UMNO chief, pointed out that the role of party chairman does not carry executive authority over state governance, asserting that it is limited to managing the party itself.
“If DSP Hajiji remains the chairman of GRS and PGRS indefinitely, that’s acceptable, but the Chief Minister’s role is fundamentally about state administration.
“Therefore, as the people of Sabah, we certainly have the right to voice our opinions.
“If there’s nothing to hide, why not make a public statement for the SMM company to be thoroughly investigated by the relevant agencies?” he stated in a statement here today.
Jeffery also stressed that the appointment of the UMNO Sabah leader falls under the authority of the party president.
Yesterday, Christopher Mandut, the head of PBS Youth, was quoted as saying that Sabah UMNO should assess their own position before demanding that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor resign amid allegations of a mineral project scandal.
Mandut also emphasised that UMNO Sabah Chairman Bung Mokhtar Radin and his wife Zizie Izette are facing corruption charges related to Felcra Bhd investments.
