KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, the president of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, has called on members to come together in preparation for the upcoming 17th state election.
Hajiji has instructed the political bureaus at the division levels to protect the party and the GRS-Pakatan Harapan state government against any accusations, misinformation, and defamation.
He emphasised the importance of unity among Gagasan Rakyat members as they approach this significant electoral event.
According to Hajiji, both the party and the state administration are facing increased challenges, necessitating a stronger collective effort.
“Let us stand firm in defending Gagasan Rakyat, GRS, and the current state government. If we unite under the banner of ‘Sabah First,’ we will be able to counter any attempts to undermine our development agenda for Sabah,” he stated during his opening remarks at the Gagasan Rakyat general assembly at SICC today.
Hajiji encouraged party leaders and members to strengthen their bonds and promote unity, especially with the state election expected within the next 13 months.
As the chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), he highlighted that political stability is essential for Sabah’s peaceful and prosperous development, warning that continuous infighting among political leaders would hinder progress.
Hajiji, who also serves as chief minister, noted that he has until October of next year to dissolve the state assembly, which would trigger the 17th state election.
The election must occur within 60 days following the dissolution.
“This indicates that we can schedule the state elections at any time, whether before or at the conclusion of our term in the state legislative assembly next October,” he added.
