KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has secured approval to install a gas power plant designed to augment the generation capacity reserves within the Sabah Grid.
Recently, SESB received a Letter of Notification (LoN) from the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) for the supply and installation of a gas turbine generator with a capacity of 94 megawatts (MW).
The project is scheduled to commence in September 2024 and is anticipated to be operational by June 2025.
The Chief Executive Officer, Ir.Ts. Mohd Yaakob Hj. Jaafar, emphasised that this gas-based power plant initiative is part of a short-term strategy that must be implemented in accordance with the Generation Development Plan approved by the Sabah Energy Council (MTS).
He noted that the facility will be situated in the Kimanis district and will connect to the Sabah Grid via an injection point at the Langsat Main Entry Substation (PMU) in Kimanis.
“The implementation of this Fast Track project is essential to ensure adequate generation capacity and to maintain the stability of the Sabah Grid,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
