SANDAKAN: The Sabah UMNO has urged the authorities to take decisive action against individuals promoting the notion of Sabah’s departure from Malaysia, which is perceived as incitement.
Datuk Suhaimi Haji Nasir, the Information Chief of Sabah UMNO, highlighted that certain groups have recently been openly discussing this contentious issue on various social media platforms.
He expressed concern that neglecting such provocations could undermine the spirit of cooperation, unity, and public safety.
“The actions of this group are intended to create discord within the nation, and Sabah UMNO demands an investigation into the individuals orchestrating these provocations,” he said in a statement on Monday.
The Libaran MP criticised the irresponsible rhetoric aimed at seizing Sabah from Malaysia that has been circulating online.
“I call upon the police to look into this situation, particularly those inciting unrest from outside, as it poses a significant threat,” he remarked.
Suhaimi pointed out that any grievances between the federal and state governments should be addressed through dialogue rather than inciting public unrest.
He also noted that during a recent meeting of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), which included Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Nor, 11 demands related to MA63 were discussed, with seven already resolved.
“We are optimistic that the issues surrounding the MA63 demands will be systematically addressed, and if this is one of the motivations for this group to revive the Sabah exit narrative, it is certainly unfounded,” he concluded.
Suhaimi reaffirmed that the Prime Minister remains committed and proactive in ensuring these matters are resolved.
