Warisan and UMNO may team up to challenge GRS during PRN-17, says former Sabah rep

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) is presently in a collaborative relationship with a faction of UMNO, headed by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who is aiming to formalise this alliance, as stated by former Petagas assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang.

However, he said that this initiative has been rejected by the Deputy President of UMNO, owing to the prevailing political circumstances at the federal level, where GRS and UMNO are constituents of the Madani coalition.

Nonetheless, Ligunjang expressed the belief that UMNO president Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has informally provided tacit consent for Bung to engage with Warisan and to avoid competing against each other in significant regions governed by both parties.

In his latest social media post, he pointed out that the JKDM program initiated by Zahid, which allocates allowances to party leaders from both UMNO and Warisan at the village level, serves as a testament to the strengthening ties between the two parties.

Conversely, Ligunjang mentioned that the faction led by Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan is receptive to establishing a partnership with GRS.

Meanwhile, the third faction, led by Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya, which successfully thwarted the coup against the GRS government orchestrated by Warisan and UMNO, is likely to align with GRS through Gagasan.

He stated that while there has been no formal declaration regarding collaboration, there exists a significant likelihood that Warisan and Bung Moktar’s faction within UMNO will join forces to contest GRS for authority over the state government.
