KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir has accused Sabah UMNO deputy chief Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan of attempting to overthrow and replace Datuk Bung Moktar Radin as the Sabah Umno chief.
As reported by FMT, this alleged attempt has not come to fruition as of now.
Suhaimi emphasised that Rahman lacks the influence to lead the state chapter, especially considering his past electoral defeats.
He also highlighted that Bung Moktar, the current Sabah Umno chief, has the authority to make decisions regarding the state chapter’s political alliances and candidate appointments.
Suhaimi refuted Rahman’s claim that the central Umno leadership had taken away the chapter’s autonomy, stating that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had confirmed that Bung retains control over matters related to the Sabah state election.
While Zahid aims for alignment between federal and state strategies, Suhaimi clarified that decisions regarding candidates and partnerships for the state polls fall under Bung’s jurisdiction, with parliamentary seats being the responsibility of the central Umno leadership.
