Opposition leaders must demonstrate open-mindedness when it comes to matters of national interest, says Salleh

KOTA KINABALU: The opposition leaders need to be open-minded when it comes to matters of national interest, according to former Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

He also emphasised the importance of political maturity, not just in congratulating but also in supporting the efforts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki in fighting corruption within the civil service.

In his latest Facebook post, Salleh stated that credit should be given where it is due.

He urged the top political leaders of the opposition to prioritise the national interest over their own political agenda and self-interest.

“Do they not care about the public and national interests? How can they ignore the MACC’s efforts to combat corruption within the civil service?” Salleh questioned.

He further added, “You may not like PMX, but you should still appreciate the efforts being made to save the country from the cancer of corruption. You should not disregard something that is beneficial for the nation.”

Salleh pointed out that the opposition leaders turned a blind eye to corruption in the civil service when they were in power.

He criticised their tendency to only discuss matters of national interest during general elections.

Salleh’s remarks shed light on the behaviour of the opposition leaders and their lack of genuine concern for the nation’s well-being.
