KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to launch the national-level Kaamatan Festival, which will be held for the first time at the KDCA Building on May 31.
Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, said that the hosting of the national-level Kaamatan Festival is in line with the organiser’s mission to elevate the status of the festival to a national level.
He said that this year’s Kaamatan Festival will see wider participation, especially among Sabahans who are currently residing in other states in Malaysia.
Jeffrey, who is also the Chairman of the National-level Kaamatan Festival Organiser, said that the Head of State, Tun Mahiruddin, has consented to officiate the Kaamatan Festival on May 30.
He told reporters here today.
Previously, the highlight of the Kaamatan Festival was only celebrated on May 30 and 30 at the state level.
The Kaamatan Festival, also known as Tadau Kaamatan, is celebrated for a month starting on May 1, with the climax celebrated for two days starting on May 30 and 31.
It is a special celebration ceremony observed by the Kadazandusun and Murut (KDM) communities to honour the ‘Bambarayon’, which symbolises the spirit of paddy.
