CM, the state cabinet ought to collectively take responsibility and step down – Bung Moktar

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Chief Minister or the entire Sabah cabinet must collectively take responsibility by resigning if the issue regarding the controversial appointment of the attorney representing the state government is not clarified and resolved in the near future.

Sabah UMNO chief Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said that this step is crucial to ensuring that the mandate to choose a new government can be returned to the people.

“The confidence and trust of the people must be restored,” he said in a statement today.

He said that UMNO Sabah is also of the opinion that the Attorney General of Sabah and the State Secretary should resign honourably following the crisis.

He added that the explanation by the Attorney General of Sabah, Datuk Nor Aisah Mohd Yusof, regarding the appointment of attorney Tengku Datuk Fuad Tengku Ahmad as the state government’s representative is very confusing and raises more questions.

According to him, the appointment and the action of appointing attorney Tengku Datuk Fuad as the government’s attorney have violated and contradicted the aspirations of the people of Sabah by attacking the Sabah Law Society (SLS) as “an interfering body with no right to represent Sabah,” which is unacceptable and disappointing.

Therefore, not only the Attorney General of Sabah but also the Secretary of the Sabah State Government should take responsibility and resign honourably.

“It is impossible for the Attorney General of Sabah to take such a significant action on his own without the approval or direction of superiors such as the Secretary of the Sabah State Government because the Attorney General of Sabah represents the official stance of the Sabah Government,” he said.

Bung Moktar said that the statement made by the appointed lawyer that 40% is not an absolute right of Sabah and is just an aspiration can be considered the official stance of the GRS government.

He said this clearly betrays the rights of the people by the GRS government, which has lost all moral standing to continue governing.

“It is evident from the GRS Government’s campaign that ‘Our Home, We Protect’ and ‘Sabah First’ are merely political gimmicks to hoodwink the people of Sabah as a whole,” he said.
