PBS confident of retaining Matunggong in the upcoming PRN

MATUNGGONG : Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam is confident that the party could retain the Matunggong state seat in the upcoming State Election (PRN).

He said PBS Matunggong Division has a membership of no less than 10,000 people, and this gave the party the edge in the upcoming PRN.

He said this when officiating the Annual General Meeting of Matunggong PBS Division at the Matunggong KDCA Hall at Kampung Toporoi, here, on Friday.

The division meeting was attended by 600 members, with representatives from 125 branches in attendance.

Dr. Joachim, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister II, expressed his gratitude to all the attendees and encouraged them to continue supporting PBS in their ongoing fight for the rights of Sabah’s indigenous people.

In regards to the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PBS and STAR, also known as BERSATU-SOLIDARITI (BEST), Dr. Joachim emphasised that both parties share a common struggle and that this collaboration will help avoid divisive politics.

He stressed the importance of unity within the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, in order to counter external influences.

PBS and STARSABAH are part of the GRS coalition, which also includes the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), SAPP, USNO, PHRS, and LDP. Dr. Joachim highlighted the necessity of cooperation among these parties to achieve success in all 73 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituencies.

Dr. Joachim also emphasised the importance of grassroots leaders entering every village to understand the issues faced by the people and find solutions.

Present at the event were the Matunggong PBS Chief and PBS Secretary-General, Datuk Julita Majungki; PBS Executive Secretary, Mesilus Roman; and Youth Chief cum Vice President, Dr Christoper Mandut.
