Mount Ruang eruption: Flight KK-Tawau and KK-Kuala Lumpur routes cancelled

KOTA KINABALU: Most flights on the Kota Kinabalu-Tawau, and Kota Kinabalu-Kuala Lumpur routes have been canceled today.

Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) Manager Jefry Ramli, in a statement, said that some flights to other destinations have also had their departure and arrival times changed.

He said that the flight cancellations were due to the eruption of Mount Ruang in Indonesia.

Yesterday, Indonesia News Agency (ANTARA) reported an increase in volcanic activity at Mount Ruang in the Sitaro Islands, North Sulawesi region, which spewed volcanic ash up to 3,000 meters high.

As a result, local authorities in Indonesia have declared a state of emergency for 14 days, effective from April 16 to April 29.

Meanwhile, Jefry advised passengers to contact the airlines directly for the latest information.
