The Director of UPPM, Datuk Awang Kadin Tang, said that among the locations receiving the contributions include the districts of Kalabakan, Merotai, Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu, and Kunak.

He said that there are still 20 areas yet to be visited in the Amal Berbuka Puasa Program by UPPM in collaboration with several corporate companies including Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad, Benta Wawasan Sdn Bhd, and Sabah Softwood Berhad.

“We are confident that the Amal Berbuka Puasa Program is eagerly awaited and has received encouraging response among the less fortunate individuals who are in dire need of assistance.

“In addition to breaking fast, other supplementary activities have been established, such as enabling these less privileged children to purchase Hari Raya preparations including traditional attire and other necessities for the celebration,” he said yesterday.

Awang Kadin said that the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative with these companies is a sign of their concern to assist those in need, especially orphaned children and asnaf, in celebrating Eid with more meaning.

“This CSR initiative during Ramadan is Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated’s effort to care for orphaned children and asnaf through iftar programs and donations of celebration essentials and ‘duit raya’ (Eid money).

“Today (Wednesday), the children had the opportunity to go shopping for Eid at several Servay Hypermarket and Parkwell Servay outlets around the Sandakan district,” explained Awang Kadin.

He hoped that this program would help alleviate some of the costs for these children in preparing for Eid, as all the expenses for the festive season are not insignificant and are usually borne by their parents.

Every time before Aidilfitri, the issue of preparation becomes a hassle among parents or guardians. Moreover, it can cost thousands of ringgit, especially for those with a large number of children.

“When I see the happiness radiating from their faces, I am extremely grateful. That is already sufficient for me because they can also celebrate Syawal like everyone else,” added Awang Kadin.

Also present were the Managing Director of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad, Datuk Dexter Lau, accompanied by his wife, Datin Siew Yee, and the Chief of Women’s Wing of Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Datuk Redonah Bahanda.
