SANDAKAN: UMNO must regroup and devise effective strategies to guarantee triumph in the upcoming 17th state election (PRN).
Towards this end, Sabah UMNO Chief Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin said the party has launched Gerak 17 with the aim of achieving victory in the next PRN.
He said the Gerak 17 for Zone 5, also known as the grassroots tour, which covers five state constituencies, garnered exceptional backing from UMNO members.
“Alhamdulillah, for this Zone 5, we have already visited Dun Telupid, Dun Sugud in Beluran, Dun Sekong, Dun Sungai Manila, and Dun Sungai Sibuga. The support from the attending UMNO members has been extraordinary,” he said.
“We understand that this event is held during working hours, not a government program. Facilities such as transportation and lucky draw tickets are not provided by the organizers. However, the presence of UMNO supporters is truly inspiring, showing their loyalty and enthusiasm to fight alongside this party,” he said.
Bung said this after attending the Gerak 17 (Grassroots Tour) of the Sabah UMNO programme for the Sungai Manila state constituency on Sunday.
Bung emphasised that UMNO is consistently mindful of the prevailing political landscape and endeavours to fulfil its mission of revitalising the determination and triumph of UMNO supporters.
In accordance with this, he stated that the top leadership of UMNO Sabah actively engaged with grassroots members through the Gerak 17 programme.
“This initiative involved meeting with party leaders, disseminating information on current political matters, and aiding in the preparedness of divisions to confront the upcoming PRN, which is anticipated to take place no later than next year,” he said.
Bung, who also serves as a member of the UMNO Supreme Council, clarified that Gerak 17 serves a broader purpose beyond strengthening the party machinery for pre-election objectives.
He added that it serves as a comprehensive platform that encompasses various aspects, including evaluating the loyalty and determination of party members at the grassroots level.
