Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has identified a fish vendor suspected of using prohibited colouring at the Inanam Night Market site on Monday night.
The Director-General of DBKK, Junainah Abbie, said that the fish samples were taken to the laboratory by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) to determine the effectiveness of the coloring in question.
Junainah said the test report on the samples will be relayed by KKM to the City Environmental Health Department (JKPB) for necessary action.
“The operation conducted by the Vendor Management Division, KKM, and JKPB DBKK at the Inanam Night Market site found a fish vendor suspected of using coloring on the fish he was selling from 7.00 to 9.30 pm.
“Strict action will be taken against the fish trader if the KKM laboratory report confirms the use of prohibited coloring,” she said in a statement today.
She said that the operation involved four members from the Vendor Division of the DBKK Licencing Department, led by Mr. Hassim Musa, and six members from JKPB DBKK, led by Adrian Ijom.
KKM also participated in the operation with seven officers led by Rozita Ibrahim to identify non-compliant traders based on public reports.
Junainah emphasised that DBKK and KKM will continue to expand this operation to ensure fish traders adhere to regulations and avoid using prohibited colouring substances to safeguard consumer health.
