The Dewan Negara president’s seat had been vacant since January, following the resignation of Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Wan Junaidi was subsequently appointed as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak.

Mutang, a member of the Lun Bawang tribe, is a qualified lawyer with extensive experience.

At 69 years old, he is also known as the brother of the late Judson Sakai Tagal, who served as the former Sarawak communications assistant minister and the first Ba Kelalan state assemblyman.

Currently, Mutang serves as the president of the Orang Ulu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as the honorary consul-general of Romania in Sarawak.
