Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin said the largest sporting events in Sabah will take place in four districts: Kota Kinabalu, Ranau, Tuaran, and Keningau.

“The 10th edition of SAGA this time involves a total of 3,110 athletes and officials in Kota Kinabalu district, 1,298 people in Tuaran district, and 794 people in Penampang district.

“Apart from that, a total of 988 people will be involved in the Putatan district, 235 people in the Ranau district, 140 people in the Keningau district, and the remaining 394 people are secretarial officers who will work hard to ensure that this year’s games run smoothly and successfully,” he said.

He said this when delivering his ministry’s winding-up speech at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) here on Wednesday.

Ellron said a total of 182 gold medals, 182 silver medals, and 262 bronze medals will be up for grabs, where 103 events are offered in the men’s category, 75 events for the women’s category, and four events for the mixed category.

He said SAGA is a platform for sportsmen or athletes from 28 districts throughout the state of Sabah to compete before being identified and selected to represent the state to participate in the 2024 Sarawak Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which will take place in August next year.

“The SUKMA Sabah contingent is eyeing more gold medals at SUKMA 2024 Sarawak.

“The Sports Board, an agency under my ministry, also plays a role in unearthing new talents in under-12 sports. In 2024, the under-12 football development programme will be implemented in several districts in Sabah,” he said.
