KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s position as Prime Minister is safe and sound, despite assertions to the contrary.
Former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said this was because there is no serious contender to challenge Anwar for now.
“Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim need not worry about his position as Prime Minister since there is no serious contender to challenge him.
“Perikatan Nasional is not a serious threat as long as Tan Sri Muhyiddin is their leader,” he said in his latest Facebook posting.
Salleh said Perikatan Nasional (PN) will not be able to obtain the support of people as well as other political quarters “as long as Muhyiddin is the chairman”.
“This is my assessment after analysing the current political situation as well as talking to various politicians.
“It is normal for the opposition to criticise the Prime Minister every day, but criticism without contention leads to nothing,” he added.
The former federal minister said, “This is because the contender is weak politically within his party and within his coalition”.
“I believe PAS is fully aware of Muhyiddin’s lack of leadership as well as popular support,” he said.
According to Salleh, Anwar could be further assured by the fact that UMNO and most of the East Malaysian political parties will never join PN.
“And the main reason is Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Had this not been the case, the political landscape would have changed since PRU 15,” he said.
Salleh, who is also a Usukan assemblyman, stressed that the people have not forgotten their suffering because of the mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
