LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian enforcement authorities arrested 19 illegal immigrants in an integrated operation carried out by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) from Dec 1 to 6.
ESSCom Commander DCP Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the operation was conducted to check cross-border activities of criminal elements involving illegal immigrants and the enforcement of law, especially at the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone)
He said a total of 1,331 individuals, 205 vehicles and 486 homes and premises were checked during the operation.
The illegal immigrants were arrested under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 before repatriating them to their countries while 26 traffic summons and five Road Transport Department (RTD) summons were issued for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Hamzah also said contraband cigarettes worth RM2,002 was also seized.
He added that the integrated operation was carried out by 80 officers and personnel from various agencies comprising the Royal Malaysia Police Force, the Armed Forces, the District Office, the Immigration Department, the National Registration Department, the RTD, the Royal Customs Department, the Lahad Datu District Health Office, the Welfare Department, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and SESB.
