SANDAKAN: This east coast town needs colleges to provide more technical education opportunities for youths.
Technical education is crucial to prepare the younger generation in adapting to future technology, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) P 186 Sandakan candidate Lau Chi Keong @ Thomas Lau said to media on the third day of his election campaign in Bandar Kim Fung yesterday.
We need technical colleges offering courses like automotive and engineering to strategically build our own talent pool of youths trained in the specific skills needed, Lau who is also SAPP vice president added.
“These colleges can help to fill the skills gap in Sandakan by producing candidates with the talent and right skills that businesses need to hire,” Lau said.
Lau said our youths would not have to leave their hometown to pursue higher education because sending them elsewhere could be financial burden to their families especially those from the lower income group.
“Education is an important aspect of life and I have included the establishment of a technical college in my manifesto. If I am given the mandate by Sandakan voters on Nov 19, I will work closely with the government to make this a reality,” Lau said.
