KOTA KINABALU: South Korean-based copper foil manufacturer, SK Nexilis is sending the first batch of 30 Sabahan engineers to undertake a three-month advanced skills training at its headquarters.
They will leave for South Korea on Sept 16.
The sending-off ceremony was held at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu here on Tuesday night, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister cum Industrial Development Minister Datuk Dr. Joachim Gunsalam.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Joachim said the Sabah Government welcomes this kind of initiative to develop human capital in order to support the development of the industrial sector in Sabah.
He said human capital development is one of the main thrusts of the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ).
“We are happy and grateful to SK Nexilis for giving local Sabahans the opportunity to work and learn from one of the established and leading companies in South Korea and the world,” he said.
Congratulating all the engineers who were selected to participate in the training course at SK Nexilis, South Korea, Dr. Joachim said this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity should be fully utilised by all the selected participants.
According to him, the main objective of the programme is to ensure that all selected local engineers can gain knowledge and improve their skills in preparation for the SK Nexilis Malaysia Sdn Bhd factory in Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) here.
He encouraged all the selected engineers to gain as much knowledge as possible and improve their skills and abilities through this programme.
“In addition, all the selected engineers also need to learn and develop a good and efficient work culture/ethics that has been applied by all those involved in industrial development in South Korea. This is important considering that all the selected participants will be a role model to the people of Sabah to develop the industrial sector in Sabah.
“Besides that, I also encourage all the selected participants to always maintain their highest level of discipline and show their determination to gain knowledge and improve their skills during the training course.
“While in Korea, I hope you all will be hardworking and disciplined in learning diligently. You have to be a role model not only for your work. You must remember that you are not only the trainee engineers of SK Nexilis but also the ambassador for the whole of Sabah and Malaysia. Therefore, your work attitude; the way you carry yourself, your culture will be portrayed as Malaysians and Sabahans,” he said, while thanking and appreciating SK Nexilis for the initiative and opportunity given to the Sabahan engineers.
