KOTA KINABALU: Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung created history by becoming the first Sabahan to be elected as deputy president of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia.
Chin who is the Sabah Wushu Association president, was elected unopposed to the national deputy president post for 2022-2024 at the Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) annual general assembly held in Kuala Lumpur during the weekend.
All other candidates were also elected unopposed to their respective posts. The WFM committee line-up for the new two-year term are –
President – Dato’ Chong Kim Fatt (Negeri Sembilan) unopposed, Deputy President – Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung (Sabah) unopposed, Chairman- Chin Kin Thong (Perak) unopposed, Secretary General – Yong Kheng Chien (Melaka) unopposed, Treasurer – Kuan Sai Kow (Negeri Sembilan) unopposed.
Speaking from Kuala Lumpur when contacted by media, Chin said his election to the post is an honour to Sabah and promised to continue with his efforts to further uplift wushu standard in Sabah, Federal Territory of Labuan and Sarawak.
He thanked representatives from the 16 affiliates under WFM for their support.
Chin encouraged parents to send their young children to wushu classes because it is a sport which makes the body strong and healthy.
“In wushu there is an inherent emphasis on discipline, focus and respect in the martial tradition. It also inculcate into young children a series of values, traditionally known Martial Ethics, that teaches them good values and ethics,” Chin added.
