KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), Sabah branch, under the leadership of its chairman Tan Sri T,C Goh will be working closely with the Sabah police to create greater public awareness on such important issues like urban security, drug abuse, and scams.
To achieve this, Sabah police will assign officers of its relevant departments to collaborate with MCPF Sabah.
Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) and The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) disclosed this after leading the delegation of MCPF Sabah in a courtesy call on Deputy Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Jauteh Dikun, at the Sabah Police Headquarters in Kepayan here, on Friday.
Also in attendance were MCPF Senior Vice Chairman, Dato’ Seri Ayub Yaakob, Vice Chairman, Dr. Isdawati Ismail, *Executive Committee Datuk Muhammad Fuad, MCPF Sabah Vice Chairman, Dr KH Tan, Secretary General Khian Chong committee members Datuk John Sikayun, Johnny Wong, Dr Elain Kong, Datuk Naim Ahmad, Datuk Ahmad Fazillah and various senior Sabah police officers, including its Management Head, Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Zabidi Hj. Md Zain.
In his briefing, Ayub gave a brief introduction on MCPF’s organisational structure, its objectives and functions, and its aims of promoting greater cooperation between the police and the public in preventing crimes.
Goh who is also a member of the Sabah Economic Advisory Council (SEAC) took the opportunity to introduce the MCPF Sabah lineup, whose members were professionals from various professions including entrepreneurs, lawyers, and social activists. He was convinced that they would be able to contribute meaningfully towards crime prevention efforts in Sabah.
“First and foremost, we aspire to implement the Urban Security Plan in all major towns in Sabah, besides setting up our liaison offices in all the districts. This is so that we could better contribute towards preventing crimes,” he said.
He said, MCPF Sabah will first set up liaison offices in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau, before expanding to other districts in stages.
“Our ultimate aim is to establish our liaison office in every district where there’s a district police station. But, this certainly would take time and proper planning to implement,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dikun welcomed MCPF’s noble intention of forging close collaboration with Sabah police, and promised to provide all the necessary support and cooperation in this direction.
Besides this, he also shared MCPF’s concern over the drug abuse problem, social issues and victimization of the public by syndicates of various scams.
“It seems that the scam syndicates are everywhere nowadays, and their tricks are getting more sophisticated by the day, where even professionals like bankers have been scammed,” said Dikun.
Acknowledging the importance of maintaining regular exchange and discussion between the MCPF and the police, on relevant and pressing issues, he on the spot instructed senior officers of relevant departments to provide their cooperation to MCPF, in future.
On behalf of MCPF, Goh thanked the Sabah police contingent for its trust and cooperation, and hoped that both parties could work closely to better prevent crimes in Sabah.l
