LOTA KINABALU: The West Coast Smart Consumers Association supports the call by independent assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah for the Ministry of Transport to provide an explanation on the issue of increasing the price of domestic flight tickets after cross -state clearance.
Its president, David Chan, said airlines would need to lower fares following cross -state clearances.
“Do not take advantage of the permission announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor.
“People have not been able to meet their families for two years because of PKP. “This greatly affects students from Sabah who want to go to Peninsular Malaysia, also for the areas of Tawau, Sandakan and Lahad Datu … the issue of increasing the price of domestic flight tickets should not happen in the current situation,” said David.
David added that the soaring price of airline tickets is like taking advantage of the narrowness of consumers.
“We, as consumers, strongly support Datuk Masiung’s statement … on the inflated domestic plane ticket fares.
“Aviation agencies should not take the opportunity to raise fares at this time as most of the passengers are those affected by the Movement Control Order (PKP).
“Some of them have lost their jobs over the past two years. They also want to return to the village to visit their families in the village,” he added.
