KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s new Covid-19 cases jumped to 712 today and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun blames it on the people’s lack of full adherence to the SOP.

“We are now in the recovery phase and there is a probability that the people are becoming careless in observing the Movement Control Order (MCO) which calls on them to reduce their movement outside and to stay at home because they perceive that we are recovering,” he said.

“The highest cases fall under the category of close contacts which signifies that many are now carriers of the virus and have probably infected their network of friends causing the number to multiply,” he said in his latest social media post.

Masidi then urged the people of Sabah to adhere strictly all the SOP and reduce their journey outside their abode unless necessary.

On the cases today, Masidi said that all districts in Sabah registered new cases.

“The main contributor today is close contacts with 383 cases (53.8 percent) followed by cases from clusters with 112 cases and targeted screening with 88 cases,” he said.

Two new clusters are reported today – Jalan Mat Salleh cluster (Federal House) with nine cases and Nosoob Baru cluster with one case.

The State capital continues to be at the top with 161 new cases, followed by Sandakan with 98 cases and Beaufort with 72 cases.
