KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister/Minister of Industrial Development (MID) Datuk Dr. Joachim Gunsalam made a visit to Sabah Skills & Technology Centre (SSTC) recently.
He was welcomed by SSTC’s Chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Khen Thau, Deputy Chairman, Datuk John Choo and Management Council Members.
During the centre tour, Dr Joachim had the opportunity to visit all SSTC trainees, including the Drone Technology Course where trainees demonstrated interactive drone simulations and outdoor activities.
The three-months Drone program was newly introduced this year under the Stimulus Economic Package to equip the trainees with new skills.
The benefits of the program which allow the trainees to understand a Complete Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Solution, the Ability of Drone, Technology for Enterprises, aware of Drone Safety, Rules and Regulations in Malaysia and understand Basic Drone Controlling.
Trainees were also exposed to the internalise all Practical Aspects of Flight Manoeuvres and UAS Technical Features and complete UAS Flight Execution and Mission Planning for Industrial Application from Start to Finish.
Dr Joachim also visited the SSTC’s latest training simulation, the Bosch Rexroth Modular Mechatronics Training System mMS 4.0.
A miniaturized production line that offers an in-depth look into intelligent networking of machines in the production environment, and their work processes covering the 9 pillars of Industry 4.0 technologies.
The built-in technology in the system indirectly makes an industry or the processes more efficient, productive, cost & time saving with real time information. Program customization can be tailored according to the needs of the industries/companies.
The Smart-Factory simulation machine was invested by the Sabah State Government through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Sabah last year.
Dr Joachim was also briefed on a joint programme between SSTC, International Labour Organisation and British High Commission. The Skills for Prosperity Programme covering the districts of Ranau and Tuaran, aims to improve skills utilization, employment, and career progression opportunities of women and youth.
The development of localized training models for inclusion and future-readiness that are scalable, replicable and sustainable are very important for Sabah.
Aside of it, it is also to improve the functions and membership of a local TVET/skills network in Sabah, and partnership with government agencies and the industry (including SMEs).
During the discussion with SSTC Chairman and Management Council Members, the minister is happy to note that SSTC has been catering to the needs of the industry and hoped SSTC continues its good work together with MID and its agencies especially the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR).
