KUALA LUMPUR: Member of Parliament for P.170 Tuaran, Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, has urged the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) to clarify the implementation status of four Rural Water Supply (BALB) projects involving the Tuaran parliamentary constituency.
He said the projects include the 2018/2019 Reticulation System for the Kota Kinabalu Division, which also covers Tuaran, Upper Kiulu, Bukit Giling–Ulu Bakut, as well as Penimbawan and surrounding areas.
Madius called on the ministry to explain when residents in the affected areas would receive treated water, while also ensuring that the project implementation documents and funding were in place following the handover of implementation to the Sabah Government.
“When will water reach residents’ homes? After implementation was handed over to Sabah, were the relevant documents and funding already available?” he asked when debating the 2027 Budget at the Committee stage for KKDW in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
He said project implementation must ensure that residents actually receive a water supply, rather than merely completing the physical infrastructure.
For the Penimbawan project, he also asked the ministry to respond to his request to increase the treatment plant’s capacity from four million litres to 16 million litres per day so that the Tenghilan area could also benefit.
“For Penimbawan, what is the outcome of Tuaran’s request to increase the plant’s capacity from four to 16 million litres per day so that Tenghilan can also benefit?” he asked.
Madius also raised the Kapa–Sinalapak project and asked the ministry to clarify whether issues involving the site and water sources had been resolved.
“Will the project proceed or be replaced, and when will residents receive water?” he asked.
On electricity supply, he also called on the ministry to provide details of the allocation specifically intended for Tuaran under the Rural Electricity Supply (BELB) Zone Three project, which covers several districts
