KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia-China business engagement is gaining momentum, with strong support from Sabah’s business community for the upcoming “Malaysia-China Guangzho Industry Visit and Networking Dinner”, organised by the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah under the leadership of its President, Datuk Dexter Lau.
The Sabah delegation has now reached 120 participants, reflecting strong interest among local stakeholders in strengthening bilateral trade relations and exploring international business opportunities.
The delegation comprises MCCC Sabah council members, members, government officials and leaders of various chambers of commerce, bringing together representatives from government agencies, business organisations and a wide range of industries.
Its diverse composition reflects a shared commitment among Sabah’s public and private sectors to expanding international business networks.
MCCC Sabah Vice President and Organising Committee Chairman Louis Su said the encouraging response and broad representation across different sectors were particularly heartening.
He noted that the strong participation reflected growing interest in the potential of the Chinese market and the prospects for closer economic and trade cooperation between Malaysia and China.
He said the delegation would be jointly led by Sabah Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Datuk Jamawi Jaafar and MCCC Sabah President Datuk Dexter Lau.
It would bring together representatives from government agencies, chambers of commerce and the business community for a programme focused on cross-sector engagement and business exchange.
Louis added that the 120-member delegation demonstrated not only strong support for the initiative but also the eagerness of local businesses and trade organisations to gain first-hand insights into China’s market and industry developments through on-site visits and direct engagement.
The two main events scheduled for 13 November — the “China-Malaysia Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange” and the Networking Dinner — have also received an enthusiastic response from the Chinese business and government communities. Around 200 Chinese representatives will attend the event, bringing the total number of participants from both countries to more than 300.
Government representatives, chamber leaders and businesspeople from Malaysia and China will gather for the occasion, creating a broader platform to establish business connections, exchange market insights and explore potential areas of cooperation.
The strong turnout underscores the importance both sides place on deepening Malaysia-China economic and trade ties.
Louis expressed hope that participants would make the most of the visit to connect with Guangzhou’s government agencies, chambers of commerce and businesses, exchange market information and industry experience, and identify potential business opportunities.
He emphasised that the visit should go beyond networking and site visits, paving the way for meaningful business partnerships and tangible outcomes in the future.
Organised by MCCC Sabah, the four-day, three-night delegation will visit Guangzhou from 11 to 14 November 2026.
The “China-Malaysia Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange” and Networking Dinner will take place on 13 November, bringing together government representatives, chamber leaders and businesspeople from both countries to explore opportunities for bilateral trade cooperation and industrial development.
Louis said he hoped the Guangzhou visit would serve as an important platform for Sabah’s business community to broaden its international networks, with all 120 participants gaining valuable insights and connections that could be developed into future collaborations, giving fresh impetus to trade and economic ties between Sabah and China.
