KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Government has been called upon to accelerate the implementation of Sabah’s entitlement to receive 40 percent of the net federal revenue generated from the state, as stipulated in the Federal Constitution.
In making the call, Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal stated that the interim payment of RM1.5 billion announced by the government cannot be regarded as a final resolution to this claim.
According to the Semporna Member of Parliament, the people of Sabah deserve to know the actual amount the state should receive, including the calculation methodology, revenue breakdown, and the basis for determining payments according to the 40 percent formula.
“Sabah is not asking residents of other states to surrender their share. Sabah is requesting that the portion allocated to it in the Constitution be fulfilled,” he said.
He made these remarks while debating the Supply Bill 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday.
Mohd Shafie explained that Article 112C of the Federal Constitution provides special allocation to Sabah, while Article 112D establishes a review mechanism through negotiations in accordance with constitutional provisions.
In this regard, he urged the government to present detailed calculations, establish a finalization date and commencement of payments, and clarify the resolution of claims for previous years.
gus memerlukan penjelasan menyeluruh mengenai punca kelewatan.
