KOTA KINABALU: A devastating collision claimed the lives of four men early this morning when their Perodua Viva veered off course and struck a five-ton lorry positioned along the roadside in Taman Jaya Diri, Jalan Sepanggar.
All four victims became trapped inside the vehicle following the impact.
The Sabah Operations Centre of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency distress call at 2:37 a.m., prompting nine firefighters from Kota Kinabalu and Lintas fire stations to respond immediately to the scene.
Rescue teams deployed specialized extraction equipment to free the trapped occupants from the wreckage.
By 3:50 a.m., all four victims had been successfully extracted from the vehicle, though medical personnel confirmed their deaths at the scene.
Three of the deceased were identified as being 21, 23, and 24 years old respectively, while the fourth victim’s age remained unconfirmed in the preliminary report.
The bodies were subsequently transferred to police custody for further investigation.
The coordinated rescue operation, supported by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Ministry of Health (KKM), and Civil Defence Force (APM), concluded at 3:55 a.m.
