KOTA KINABALU: KEADILAN Sabah’s State Leadership Council respects the Federal Territories Pardons Board’s decision regarding the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, according to party chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.
He emphasised that this decision was made within the constitutional framework and powers vested in the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“Respecting the Constitution does not mean we compromise on principles of justice and the rule of law.
“Anyone who commits criminal offenses, particularly those involving abuse of power and corruption, must be held accountable under the law regardless of their rank or influence,” he said in a statement.
Mustapha, who is the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah & Sarawak), clarified that the conditional pardon applies solely to the SRC case.
“This means other cases will be tried fairly based on legal merits,” he explained.
He stressed that Malaysia must remain a nation governed by law that upholds institutional integrity and independence.
“Public confidence in our legal and administrative systems is crucial for strengthening citizen trust and maintaining Malaysia’s reputation as a reliable investment destination,” Sakmud noted.
Therefore, he urged all efforts to focus on political stability by continuing support for Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration to advance reform and economic recovery agendas.
“For Borneo’s people, Dato’ Seri’s leadership is essential to ensure the Madani Government prioritizes fulfilling outstanding MA63 demands and improving financial allocations for Sabah and Sarawak’s development,” he added.
