KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak has voiced his agreement with Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Madius Tangau’s stand on the inappropriate statements made by the UMNO Sepang leader at the recent UMNO General Assembly.
He said whatever the intention, making sexual jokes involving nuns and Catholic priests is unacceptable.
“Religion and religious figures must always be treated with respect,” he said in his Facebook post.
As such, Salleh, who is the Sabah UMNO treasurer, said the UMNO leader concerned should apologise openly and sincerely.
“This is not about politics. It is about respect, responsibility and knowing where the line should be drawn,” he added.
In Sabah, he said Muslims, Christians and people of other faiths have lived together in mutual respect for generations.
“This spirit of tolerance and harmony is something we must continue to protect,. he said.
“When something is wrong, we should have the courage to say so, regardless of who is involved,” he said.
