PENAMPANG: The appointment of a Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairman carries a significant responsibility, with the primary focus currently being the development and advancement of the village.
Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun, stated that the JKKK serves as the heartbeat of village administration and acts as a crucial bridge between the government and the people at the grassroots level.
In this regard, he urged JKKK chairmen in the district to discharge their duties with integrity and dedication.
He noted that as grassroots community leaders, JKKK chairmen must be ready to listen to the people’s voices and act with complete integrity and sincerity.
“At the same time, they must be able to convey the people’s needs to the government, particularly regarding issues such as infrastructure, welfare and social matters.
He made these remarks after the presentation ceremony for JKKK chairmen in the Penampang parliamentary constituency—covering the Moyog and Kapayan state constituencies—held at the Kampung Pagansakan Inobong Hall here today.
Mandela, who is also an Appointed Assemblyman, congratulated Penampang—specifically the Moyog State Constituency—for adopting a democratic voting process to select JKKK (Village Development and Security Committee) chairpersons by inviting villagers to elect the chairpersons for their respective villages.
“This demonstrates that we in Penampang practise a healthy and democratic election system,” he said, expressing hope that the appointees would serve as the government’s eyes and ears in disseminating information and resolving local issues prudently and responsibly.
“Best wishes for your service, and may all those receiving their appointment letters today carry out their entrusted duties with integrity, dedication, and effectiveness for the well-being of the communities in their respective areas,” he added.
