KINABATANGAN: A 57-year-old man, Rusli Mardin, was killed by a crocodile yesterday afternoon while washing a boat in Kampung Batu Putih, near here.
He was attacked around 6:31 PM and initially reported missing, prompting the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) to launch a search and rescue operation.
PBK I Jasmani Osni, who led the operation, said efforts were suspended on the first day at 8:45 PM due to poor visibility after nightfall.
The search resumed early this morning, and at 4:45 AM, local residents discovered the victim’s body about 500 meters downstream from where the incident occurred.
According to Jasmani, the body showed clear signs of crocodile bites on the abdomen and right side of the neck.
Police confirmed the man’s death at the scene.
The remains were later turned over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further procedures.
