KUALA LUMPUR: Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah has proposed that a quota for representatives from Sabah and Sarawak be considered in the membership of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
He said such representation is important in view of the geographical realities of Sabah and Sarawak, which differ significantly from those of Peninsular Malaysia.
“These realities can only be truly understood by those born and raised in our states – local people who appreciate the uniquely diverse and extraordinary geographical landscape we have,” he said.
He made the remarks while debating the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (Amendment) Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
Emphasising the importance of balance and fair representation within the commission, Matbali said the inclusion of members from Sabah and Sarawak would not only uphold the principle of inclusiveness but also enrich the national perspective.
“A strong nation is one that listens to every voice, not just the voices closest to the centre of administration,” he said.
Matbali welcomed the Bill, describing it as timely and deserving of support.
“This amendment sends a clear message that the Government is committed to ensuring that the MCMC remains relevant in addressing the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the digital economy, and future technological developments,” he said.
