Jayvid Matthew Claims Victory at 2026 Kg Pogunon Kaamatan Festival Sugandoi Competition

KOTA KINABALU: Jayvid Matthew was crowned champion of the Sugandoi singing competition, held as part of the 2026 Kampung Pogunon Kaamatan Festival celebrations. 

The event took place on Friday night at the St. Joseph Church Open Hall in Pogunon, Penampang.

Competing against eight other participants, Matthew impressed the panel of judges with his renditions of “Samod Dit Ondu” and “Waya Koposion,” showcasing strong vocal ability and stage presence.

Branda Felice Marinus secured second place, while Kenny Austin Miseh came in third. 

The judging panel consisted of well-known local artist and respected journalist Gundohing Janrywain Luasin, alongside fellow artist Willy Dingon.

Other contestants who participated and received consolation prizes for their performances were Daphane Adrian Jolinu, Dylan Stanis, Nelly Abang, Syafika Syairul, and Aileen Allbun.

The awards were handed over by Gundohing Dennis Gompion, representing Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ceaser Mandela Malakun.

Adrian Modoit, Chairman of the Sugandoi Competition, emphasized the event’s significance as a platform for nurturing vocal talent within the Kadazandusun Murut Rungus (KDMR) community of Sabah.

He noted that while the competition coincides with the Kaamatan Festival, its purpose extends beyond entertainment—it aims to cultivate emerging artists capable of advancing in the music industry.

He commended the judges for their consistent involvement throughout the event and praised all contestants for their high level of performance.

“The standard tonight was truly impressive. My congratulations to the winners, and to those who didn’t place—don’t be discouraged. Keep improving and consider entering again next year,” he encouraged.

Adrian also acknowledged the organizing committee for their efforts in ensuring the smooth execution of the event.

Among those in attendance were Stanislaus Dumalin, Organizing Chairman of the 2026 Kampung Pogunon Kaamatan Festival and current Chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), as well as Village Head Jefry Lojitin.

KOTA KINABALU: Jayvid Matthew emerged as the winner of the Sugandoi competition held in conjunction with the 2026 Kaamatan Festival celebrations at the Kampung Pogunon level.

He outperformed eight other contestants in a keenly contested event held at the St. Joseph Church Open Hall in Pogunon, Penampang, on Friday night, July 10, 2026.

His vocal prowess captivated the judges following his performances of the songs ‘Samod Dit Ondu’ and ‘Waya Koposion’.

Meanwhile, Branda Felice Marinus took second place, while Kenny Austin Miseh finished third.

The competition was judged by two experienced figures local artist and prominent journalist Gundohing Janrywain Luasin, and local artist Willy Dingon.

Other participants who took part in the competition and received consolation prizes in recognition of their efforts were Daphane Adrian Jolinu, Dylan Stanis, Nelly Abang, Syafika Syairul, and Aileen Allbun.

The prizes were presented by Gundohing Dennis Gompion, representing the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ceaser Mandela Malakun.

Meanwhile, Sugandoi Competition Chairman Adrian Modoit stated that the Sugandoi singing competition serves as a key platform for the Kadazandusun Murut Rungus (KDMR) community in Sabah to discover and hone vocal talent.

“Held in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival, this competition is not merely a source of entertainment but also a vital stepping stone for producing the next generation of singers and entertainers capable of reaching higher levels within the industry,” he said.

He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the two judges who adjudicated the competition from start to finish.

“I observed that the participating contestants were truly outstanding. I congratulate the winners, and to those who did not succeed this time—do not give up. Keep practicing and join the competition again next year,” he said.

Adrian also thanked the Sugandoi competition organizing committee for ensuring the event ran smoothly.

Also present were the Organizing Chairman for the 2026 Kampung Pogunon Kaamatan Festival Celebration, Stanislaus Dumalin—who also serves as the Kampung Pogunon Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Chairman and the Kampung Pogunon Village Head, Jefry Lojitin.
