KDM Kudat urges the government to provide a flexible diesel subsidy quota for the people of Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The federal government is called upon to grant a special exemption or to offer an additional, more flexible diesel subsidy quota that aligns with the realities of life in Sabah.

In making this recommendation, the Chief of the Kudat division of the Democratic People’s Welfare Party (KDM), Gundohing Richard Mazagi, stated that this is necessary due to Sabah’s vast geography, which includes many rural and remote areas still reliant on road transportation.

Furthermore, he noted that the challenging road conditions in Sabah require more fuel consumption compared to urban areas in Peninsular Malaysia.

“Therefore, it is essential that diesel policies are adjusted to reflect the living conditions in this state,” he said in a statement.

Richard also emphasized the need for the government to consider economic factors.

“As we know, many farmers, planters, and small entrepreneurs in Sabah depend on diesel-powered four-wheel drive vehicles to transport their produce and goods.

“Thus, the limit of 200 liters, which is quickly exhausted, forces users to purchase diesel at market prices without subsidies, consequently increasing the cost of living,” he explained.

As a result, Richard expressed hope that the government would seek the best mechanisms to ‘assist’ the people of Sabah.
