PENAMPANG: Police have shut down an illegal cockfighting and gambling operation in Kampung Buit Hills following a raid conducted on Sunday under Ops Dadu, leading to the arrest of three local men.
Superintendent Sammy Newton, Penampang’s district police chief, said officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) carried out the operation at 3 PM.
During the raid, authorities seized eight live roosters and RM606 in cash.
Items taken into custody also included rubber bands suspected of being used as makeshift fighting rings, along with various other tools associated with cockfighting.
The suspects, aged between 24 and 40, are currently being held for questioning.
The case is now under investigation under Section 21 of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, which addresses alleged animal cruelty linked to cockfighting.
