Shafie’s and Priscella Peter’s joint attendance at the Kaamatan in Kokol evokes various perceptions

KOTA KINABALU: Following the recent ‘political polemic’ regarding the joint attendance of Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffery Kitingan at the Kaamatan event in Keningau, the acting president of KDM, Priscella Peter, and Shafie were present together to celebrate the Kaamatan Festival at Bukit Kokol, Menggatal, today.

While their joint presence is perceived as a normal occurrence in the context of cultural strengthening and unity, the growing ‘closeness’ among the leaders of the Warisan, STAR, and KDM parties in recent times is likely to evoke various perceptions.

Such perceptions are common, especially when linked to the potential formation of political alignments for local parties ahead of the upcoming general election (PRU).

Indeed, Kaamatan is a festival that celebrates unity among the people of Sabah.

Kaamatan can also enhance cooperation among all of us.

In her latest Facebook post, Priscella expressed her gratitude to Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal and Edna Majimbun, the ADUN of Inanam, who was also the host, for the invitation to the Kaamatan Festival celebration held at Kokol Paradise Cafe & Restaurant, Manggatal.

“I would like to congratulate and commend the organisation of this Kaamatan Festival, which successfully brought together various segments of society in this meaningful event.

“Kaamatan should undoubtedly serve as the best platform for us to gather, meet old and new friends, and celebrate the culture and traditions that symbolise unity for all of us, regardless of political beliefs, religion, and culture,” she stated.
