KDM Kudat welcomes the allocation of an interim RM1.5 billion, hoping it won’t delay the implementation of the 40%

KOTA KINABALU: The head of the Kudat branch of the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM), Gundohing Richard Mazagi, has expressed his approval of the Madani government’s decision to increase the special allocation for Sabah to RM1.5 billion.

However, he hopes that this increase will not be used as an excuse to postpone the implementation of Sabah’s right to 40 percent of the state’s revenue, as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“The promise to implement the 40% by June/December 2026 must be fulfilled and should not just be a sweet promise ahead of the general elections,” he stated.

Richard made these comments in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of the increase in the interim special grant for Sabah to RM1.5 billion, up from RM600 million, while awaiting the finalization of the implementation method for the 40 percent revenue claim as outlined in MA63.

He noted that the people of Sabah will assess the Prime Minister’s transparency in making promises, and they will score him based on the accuracy of the commitments made.
